Insanity Week 3 - Sore is the new sexy!

 Hey lovelies! :)

Another week filled with emotional roller coaster and crazy exercise has ended! Now to think about it, it feels almost as if I've lived through these days like I wasn't really "there" - you know when life is so hectic and kind a weird that it feels like you aren't actually there living those moments. Insanity is most definitely not only a physical challenge, but a mental one. Pushing yourself further, not giving up even if it hurts and of course trying to manage with eating and self-confidence through all of that time - it is so overwhelming and I have to admit that those moments of breaking down have happened. Fortunately, I have Rauno who comforts me and pushes me further, even if I break down in tears and feel as a total failure because of few mishaps in eating. It can always get better from those moments on!

Despite of days when I feel like it's too much, the week ended with a success that I didn't even believe or wait for. The last workout this week, yesterday, was so liberating, I stopped the least I have ever stopped, my feet didn't start to ache right during the warm-up, I could do more and more of the exercises and the finish made me feel just amazing - I did the last exercises with such a rush, such strength and speed that I didn't even realize I had all of that in me! That's the first time during these weeks I've felt so good about the workout and that feeling is what keeps me going and loving the program.  Now to mention the downside - I've never ever ached so badly! After Cardio Abs workout I felt how the muscles in my lower tummy are sore but it wasn't so crucial. Then, the next day during the workout I started feeling my core being so sore and the further the exercise went, the worse it got (because the core got so much exercise). I almost felt like giving up but somehow I kept going! Trust me, I'm not one of those people who can push themselves when I feel bad.. but that day I could! And I felt great :) The only thing now is that my tummy is sooooo sore that yesterday evening I barely got up from the bed! I literally had to use walls or a table to get myself up! It's the worst pain I've ever felt!  But I knew that staying in bed will make it only worse, so we did a little walk in the evening and today as well and now I'm feeling much much better. Actually, I'm proud to be sore - that means I've done well! You know as they say - sore is the new sexy.

(after the recovery day workout.. not a pretty picture and this post is definitely the only place where this is an okay thing to show you, haha)

As the last Insanity posts have been more about my personal progress and how I've started doing it, I realized it would be great to tell you more about Insanity itself and how it all works.

Insanity is a 60-day workout program that has it's appeal in max interval training. That means that you don't get to rest long between the exercises! You get 30 second water breaks but that's it - you just have to push yourself through!  Insanity is divided into 2 months that are separated with 1 recovery week. First month is a bit easier (but just a bit!) so you could get in shape. Every week consists of 5 workouts, all about 45 minutes long, then you have 1 day of recovery which is all about stretching and recovering those sore muscles; and 1 day is totally off and for resting! That's what appeals to me in Insanity the most - it doesn't mean 7 days of hard insane work, it's very very reasonable and considers your health. Also, the exercises aren't all on the same day so you won't feel as you are stuck in a routine - they are all mixed up.

Every workout starts with a warm-up, that is also so intense! It is about 10 minutes long, consists of 1 circuit of exercises that you repeat for 3 times, every time you go only faster with the movements.  I'd say the warm-up is one of the hardest parts and only that makes me so sweaty and tired! Sometimes it even feels as if after warm-up most of the workout is done, haha. Anyways, after the warm-up there's about 6 minutes of stretching and then the workout starts! :)
You can see the warm-up exactly how it's done from HERE

For me, next week is the last week of the first month and I'm so excited! I really want to give it ALL and prove myself that I've done a progress over these weeks. :)  I feel that I've turned so so much stronger - 3 weeks ago I couldn't do any push-ups but now I can do them properly and almost 20. It's a huge change for me and I'm so happy. I see how my whole body is becoming more toned and I feel just great!
