Pringles into Bangles

Despite the fact that it's almost 1am right now, here I am - sitting in Blogger and creating a new post (well, yes I have to admit that I'm a total owl and my day starts at the midnight). Actually, I'm just excited because few days ago I made these amazing-looking bangles out of something you would never ever guess - PRINGLES CANS!  One night we bought 2 Pringles cans and I just had this "flash" that we shouldn't throw them away, instead I could actually make something out of them. So, I went to Pinterest and voila - got a brilliant idea of making bangles out of the cans! Here is the original idea: pringles bangles . They are so easy to make and you can make them out of literally anything you have around the house - I just mixed together some leftovers I had laying around.

First of course you need some Pringles! Treat yourself with good chips and then head on to handycrafts.

First, cut the cans into circular pieces of the size you'd like your bracelets to be (It was my first time to do something like that so the pieces came out looking a bit odd and maybe not so perfect as I wished for but I know that if you put some effort in it, you'll succeed!).

Cut out some newspaper stripes for thickening the bracelets. Then, it's time for the messy part! Cover the bangles with glue inside and out and then cover them carefully with the stripes. This will give some extra shape and thickness to the bangles, so it's easier to decorate them later on. And of course - let them dry over night! I had a really good glue and I let them dry for about 5 hours, but it's definitely better to let them dry for longer (also the pictures are made when the glue is wet so they look funny here still).

Then it's time for the best part - decorating. Let your creativity flow, play around with patterns, textures and fabrics (I loved this part so much). Unfortunately I couldn't make photos of the process of decorating them but I can give you some hints of how I did them. Here is the outcome:

This bangle is the one R loved so so much (and it was also quite randomly made haha). Basically what I did was that I covered the bangle with some leather fabric leftovers (I really didn't know what to do with those tiny pieces of them but voila - I found them a good use now!). Measure it precisely as your bangle is, then put some glue on the bangle and glue the fabric on it. Then I had this old broken necklace that I also used as a little chain. To end with I made this little "jewellery" effect by gluing on some silver BUTTONS (yes, buttons!) and then some old cristal-looking colorful flat-bottomed pearls. I love the look of them together!

The next one was definitely the easiest! I had this striped ribbon that I also didn't see a use for anything. I just   wrapped it around the bangle and attached the open ending with glue. And that is exactly how easy it was to make!

This one was the most difficult to make but the outcome was definitely worth it. I think you could never guess what I covered the bangle at first. ..... CANDY BAR WRAPPERS! They are so colorful, shiny .. you know me, glitter and gold everywhere. When we bought the candys, I just couldn't throw those beautiful wrappers away (shiny, golden, silver .. mm) so I stored them and found them a use now!  Anyways, I wrapped the bangle with some candy papers that I glued on just like the newspaper (the outcome was beautiful even then!) Then I foun this lacey ribbon and wrapped the bangle with it like in the last bangle. Here is the result:

The last one ... oh this one is my love! In the picture it's still wet, but oh my gosh I love this one so much, particulary because it's so .. shiny, haha. It looks like a real silver metallic bangle that is covered with glitter ornaments! As you might guess, I used the same candy wrappers here too but just the other side that is silver. I wrapped the bangle as I described above - exactly like the newspaper. Then I had this nice blue glitter glue (haha that rimes!) and I drew on some ornaments with it.  .. and then I fell in love with that bracelet.

Making these bangles was such an achievement for me - you know the feeling when you have made something that looks really good in your mind and after that it looks really good in reality as well! I must admit that since it was my first time to do this, it wasn't really perfect, but I'm still happy with the results and I will TOTALLY wear them whenever I have the occassion. So here's something to the people that aren't sometimes happy with their DIY outcomes - even if the thing you made, won't turn out as you expected, see beauty in everything and it's still a great experience for the future! Next time you will be better :)  Now I can't wait to do some outfits with my new bangles.

I hope you got some inspiration from this and who knows - maybe next time you buy Pringles, you think "hey, wait a minute - I can do something myself with it!".

xoxo
