A while ago one sweet girl contacted me in terms of her research which is all about bloggers and their relationship with fashion. After answering to all of her great questions, I really wanted to share these with you too so you can get a glimpse of what I do and what I think about certain aspects in fashion. :)

What's fashion for you? How would you define it?
Fashion as a term is a very complicated word to define but for me it’s definitely not about clothes, accessories or material things – it’s a lifestyle. Fashion is everywhere, even if people don’t think about it nor follow it, they still live it. It shows your personality, enthusiasm, happiness, so therefore for me fashion is a way of living and I’d say that fashion is something that defines me and who I am as a person.
What's your style like?
I’ve always thought about myself as I’m a chameleon who once dresses up like a lady and then like a hippie. I think it’s hard to put my style into a frame since I’m still discovering it and it changes faster than I could ever imagine, not to even mention that when it’s late at night and very hot outside, my “style” is something like shorts and a T-shirt. Actually currently I’d say my style is feminine and it’s kind a growing and evolving to a more sophisticated direction. Only thing that really puts it all together is my belief that you should always dress so it makes you smile! Therefore my style = happy.
What does your style say about you?
Right now I feel as it only screams “I’m still searching my place”. I experiment a lot, trying many different styles and ways to dress myself and quite honestly it can all turn into a very big mess. However, if I go to my comfort zone and stop experimenting, I think my style is trying to say that I’m a young woman who wants to make her days great by dressing up and leaving the boring, gray world where only jeans and sweaters are the IT thing.
What affects your style?
I am my own biggest influence by changing my style with my mood. Of course, it’s wrong to say there are no magazines, sites or people who also influence me! I guess we are very influenced by mainstream fashion that comes from the stores because hey – we go shopping, we see a beautiful outfit on the window and that itself yells to us: “Dress yourself like this!” Designers are the ones who really make our style, even if we don’t notice it.
Do you have any style-icons who's style and clothing you like and who'd you want to dress like? If yes, then what attracts you about their style?
My absolute biggest style idol is a fashion blogger Kristina Bazan who is absolutely breathtaking and literally makes you say “wow”. She is as old as I am and I guess that’s what really makes her special – being so successful in such a young age. Her style is completely feminine, elegant, classy and yet still modern. It’s never boring – somehow she manages to put the pieces together so even the most usual clothes look wonderful and special. I guess that’s her charisma that makes it all so amazing and therefore she is my ultimate favourite.
Do you keep up with fashion and style elsewhere in the world? If yes, then how?
Being a fashion blogger, I just couldn’t do other than keep my hand on the fashion pulse! I follow and read many many fashion blogs that pretty much give me the picture of what’s going on. Also, Tumblr is a very important part of all of that, showing me the latest trends and news from the fashion world.
Do world-wide trends and styles affect your style choices? If yes, then how?
They definitely do change and influence my choices. The thing is that even if I’ve always loved a trend (let’s say for example – neon colors) and it becomes very trendy one season, I absolutely buy different pieces of that trend since I already liked it – thanks to the trend, my much beloved item is popular and therefore I have more choices of buying it! The same thing happened recently with statement necklaces. I always liked them but now that they are IN, I have more choices to buy some for myself.
Do you keep up with seasonal fashion (buy products that are IN that season, for example when neon colors, floral patterns or peplum-cut skirts are IN, do you buy them?)
I would’t say I do that. Being still a college student with limited budget, it’s just not an option. But other than the budget, I still wouldn’t do it because I don’t want to look like I come from the store’s window – I want to keep the touch of uniqueness always in my looks and therefore I mix some mainstream items with my older loved pieces, giving the outfit a totally different look.
What escribes your shopping habits (how often and how many items)? Do you buy new clothes every season to exchange them with old ones? Do you prefer buying less items when you can wear them longer than one season?
I’m one of those people who actually really doesn’t care what’s in currently. Yes, I do keep my eye on it and yes, I seldom buy some items to freshen my wardrobe but that’s where it ends. I never buy something just because it’s trendy – I buy things only because I like them, and when it comes to that it doesn’t matter at all whether it’s a 200-dollar-trend-dress or a 2-dollar-second-hand-find. The purchases depend totally of the day – sometimes I come home with only one item, sometimes I come home with at least 5 things. I do go shopping quite often but most of the times I actually don’t buy anything! I like to walk around the stores, sometimes try things, just keeping my eye on the trends. I guess with shopping it also depends a lot on my mood – therefore I never know what I might get from my shopping trip.
Do you sometimes shop in foreign countries just to buy products that you know not excisting in your country?
I don’t go to foreign countries particularly to buy clothes, but I do like to order some items from the Internet to get the unique touch.
What are your favorite brands? Why do you like them? What motivates you to buy them?
I wouldn’t say I have some absolute favourite ones that top everything else, but one of my favourite ones is definitely H&M which makes great clothes – they are trendy, have nice materials and cuts and overall they are very enjoyable! That’s exactly what makes a brand a great one for me – nice quality and cuts. Also, when it comes to H&M, it’s very affordable which makes it even better.
What do you value and follow when buying clothes and accessories? What do you value about fashion?
For me the most important aspect is how the item suits me – my style, my body, my personality! Of course quality is also important, but when it comes to prices, that’s a part that is not that important. So in the end: look and quality are the 2 things that make the items “my thing” and the same is with fashion overall. It doesn’t matter how expensive something is, it matters how it looks and feels on you.
Do you like famous foreign brands? If yes, then which ones and why?
Yes, I wouldn’t say I don’t like them! Recently I’ve started to adore Guess, Michael Kors, Jeffrey Campbell and Miu Miu. With all of those brands there’s a lot of uniqueness, detail work and amazing quality which makes them very special. Purchasing something from those brands is usually a purchase for lifetime because the quality is insanely good. And of course – it looks amazing on you!
What do you think about Estonian brands?
I love very extravagant clothing, colours, patterns and details but Estonian brands tend to be very refined, modest and for me – a bit boring. Then again, I think Estonian designers have raised their quality very high and if I ever want to buy a beautiful costume for work so I’d get a very simple sophisticated look, I definitely turn to Estonian brands which provide it perfectly.
What do you think distincts estonian brands from foreign fashion labels? Which ones do you prefer and why?
As I mentioned in the previous answer, I think the most important difference is really how outgoing and “crazy” is the clothing. Foreign brands tend to go over-the-top and come up constantly with new insane trends, but Estonians play it very safe – although it’s not a bad thing at all! However, I personally still prefer foreign brands for their surprising trends and fun experiments in fashion.
What's Estonian fashion brands "selling article"? What do young (20-30-year-olds) seem to value and consume in fashion?
I’d say young people really value mainstream fashion, but that’s usually provided by foreign labels so they turn to those stores to get the “trendy look” everybody is wearing. Estonian brands seem to be more focused on the sophisticated part of people – business women and men, fashionable women in their 30s-40s and so on.
How important is label for you?
To be honest, it doesn’t matter to me at all! I’ve purchased some great items not even knowing what brand it is! I think it’s only a label which does not define how great the item can be. However, there are a couple of specific things I want to buy from the original label but those items are really rare (like a pair of specific boots).
Is it important for you how the brands you wear look and what impression does your outfit give to public?
I guess we all care a little about how we look to the public but as long as I feel good about my outfit, nothing else matters. If I dress myself from top to toe in Guess but don’t feel beautiful in it, it doesn’t matter at all if someone thinks it looks good. As long as you feel good in your clothes, others will see it too!
Do you think the brands people wear say something about the person? And if they don't wear any brands, does it show anything about the wearer?
I definitely think that brand does NOT define the way person is. It can only define whether the person has more money than someone else but let’s be honest – that still doesn’t say anything important about the person. You can look like million dollars in second-hand clothes, and look awful in extremely expensive clothes. In the end what matters is how happy you are with yourself.
What motivates you to keep up with fashion and to see about your appearance?
I can answer to this one with one word: self-esteem. Following fashion is not that much of a big deal, but every person wants to feel comfortable in their own skin, therefore it’s important to take care of you. You don’t have to put on a lot of make-up and buy expensive clothes – you just have to be healthy, take care of every inch of your body and that’s exactly how easy it is. Happiness has always been something people reach for and the first step to do that is to make you feel good about yourself. J
